Windows Vista/XP Networking, File Sharing, and File Synchonization

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone might happen to know how to network
Windows Vista Home Premium with Windows XP Professional.

I have recently setup a Linksys Wireless -G Broadband Router and it
is working beautifully, but for some reason I am not able to share
and synchronize files and folders between my Windows XP Professional
desktop and my Windows Vista Home Premium notebook computer.

I have set the desktop to share all of the resources and Windows
Vista is able to see them, but I am unable to access any of the
resources on my Vista computer using my XP computer and at the moment
I just don't know as to why.

I would appreciate it greatly if someone could tell me how I can get
both computers to communicate with each other better and as to how I
can setup both computers so that I can sychronize all of my files and
folders between the two computers so that I can make it much more
easy for me to keep all of my files and folders up to date using both
computers.

If anyone would know how to set this up properly, then I would
greatly appreciate any insight that anyone may have as this is
something that I have been having problems with and I hope to be able
to resolve the issue very soon so that I can move on to bigger and
better things.

Windows XP And Vista On The LAN Together

I have looked at that website and I have been going through all of my systems, but at the moment I am stumped and at the moment I am thinking that it might be a Vista problem.

Everytime that I try to connect to my Vista computer I get an error message that says '\\Mobile is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found.'

That is the exact error message that I am getting when I try to access my notebook computer running Vista Home Premium from my desktop which is running Windows XP Professional.

Does anyone know what this error message means and as to how I can solve the issue as at the moment all of my attempts to figure out and solve the problem on my own are failing?

Are you running a firewall other than the Windows Firewall? Somtimes third party firewalls will not allow this communication without actually telling it to allow a certian IP range.

I have disabled all of the firewalls that I know of in both XP and Vista. If there is something that I am overlooking, then I would appreciate it if someone could let me know.

The closest that I am running to a firewall is on my linksys WRT54GS wireless -g broadband router. I am trying to set up the network so that I can access the internet and both computers from my network while keeping other people out of my network, but at the moment I am having problems getting it all to work correctly and at the moment I am just not quite sure as to whether or not I am doing something wroing or if there is something else that is causing the problem.

I read your first post again and I see that your Vista laptop is able to see the network shares on your XP desktop. Is that correct?? If so what virus protection/firewall is running on your Vista laptop. Because the only thing that would keep the XP machine from seeing the Vista machine in this scenerio is a firewall installed on the Vista machine.

Let's see this for the Vista machine.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following two commands, one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

NBTSTAT -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
