Can't access desktop via \\

I have a simple network set up at home.

Desktop (Ethernet) 192.168.1.100 ----> Linksys WRT54G Router 192.168.2.1
1 Laptop (Wireless) 192.168.1.101 ---> Linksys WRT54G Router
Linksys WRT54G Router ----> DB102 ADSL Modem 192.168.1.1

All i want to do is access shared folders etc via \\192.168.*.*

Scenario 1
When i attempt to \\ from the LAPTOP to the DESKTOP , i get a popup that asks for me to input a password.
Problem with this is that the username is Guest. I don't want to enable Guest.

How can i use an administrator account?

Scenario 2
When i attempt \\ from the DESKTOP to LAPTOP, i just get a "No such network provider etc"

I have no problems using any other computer at work to connect to my laptop via \\

Notes
1. I turned off all firewalls
2. All computers are in WORKGROUP

Thanks in advanced for the help!

Turn on simple sharing on both sides.

Re: Can't access desktop via \\

How are you trying to access the folder? \\"PC-NAME"? You may need to share the folder.... In XP Pro...

1. Right Click Folder
2. Properties
3. Sharing Tab
4. Check Share this folder on the network
5. Enter Name
6. Optional to allow editing of files (checked) or just view (unchecked)
7. Ok

Then you would just need to map the network drive or type it in manually into explorer (\\Pc name\ Name you gave to shared folder\)...
