Remote Desktop Connection [moved from XP]
When I start remote desktop connection from my new XP PRo SP2 pc it only locates 2 servers that are on my network. It does not list any of the other 20 workstation pcs. It will not allow me to connect to any of those pcs that are not listed.
When I start remote destop connection from my old XP Pro SP2 pc it locates and will allow connection to all the other pcs, including my new one. What do I have to do to enable my new pc to remotely connect to my old pc and how do I do it? Thanks, John |

Re: Remote Desktop Connection
Hi dockjwd and welcome to TSF !
Check your system properties : control panel => performance and maintenance => system. Check the "remote" and "computer name" tabs (you must be on the same workgroup as the other computers). Check your firewall settings as well. Here's a tutorial : Get started using Remote Desktop with Windows XP Professional

Re: Remote Desktop Connection
Thanks justpassingby.
Control panel on my pcs does not have a "performance and maintenance" icon. I am on a windows 2000 server network. We use a domain. Windows firewall is turned off on all pcs. On windows firewall exceptions remote desktop is checked. |

Re: Remote Desktop Connection
You can usually access the system properties by right-clicking "my computer" => properties, or clicking the system icon directly from the control panel. Set the domain and workgroup name on the XP computer to match the one on the Windows 2000 servers.
I'll move this thread to the file and application sharing section where you'll have better help.
