I have a serious issue I'm trying to figure out for my company. I'm hoping someone on this forum will be able to help me out.
I work for a Taco Bell franchise and we have 100,000's of documents. I just purchased Paperport (latest edition) as well as Omnipage 16. The whole goal was to be able to scan all these documents into the PC and these programs would be able to scan them in (paperport) and convert them into text (ominpage). From here, I needed the programs to be able to recognize the documents by date, name, and/or store number and sort them into the appropriate folders. Sad to say, they don't do that. Does anyone on here know how I can be able to do this? will i need another program? Do I need to just change the settings on Omnipage or Paperport? PLEASE HELP!:(:(:(:( ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: REALLY REALLY need HELP!!
WOW! You're going to be doing this for MONTHS! If you scan 100,000 documents and then do the corrections (OCR never gets 100% right), it's a very time consuming process! Let's assume that the scan and the correction takes two minutes (it'll probably take twice that). If you have people working 24 hours a day on the task, it'll take 138 days!
100,000 * 2 minutes = 200,000 minutes = 3333 hours = 138 days! That's working around the clock, for an eight hour day it's 83 weeks if you work 5 days a week. Note that I was very aggressive about the speed of the scanning and corrections, so this number could easily double or more. I'd break out your calculator and run the numbers before you embark on this venture. ![]() The part you had right is the Title of the thread, you REALLY DO NEED HELP! ![]() ![]()

Re: REALLY REALLY need HELP!!
lol thanks for the support man and the break down of time. What i really needed help with was the finding of a program that can sort and store for me.
I want to be able to just scan all these documents and let the program sort and file on it's own. When I need to search for something, I can just type in the search bar and find something by the date/invoice number or store number. I'd like everything to be stored into individual folders by store name. is this possible? any program out there that does this? |

Re: REALLY REALLY need HELP!!
I have no idea if that specific a capability exists in a single application, my feeling is probably no. I think you're dreaming large, but when reality hits, you'll see the light.
![]() Truthfully, I'd be looking into commercial services to do this job, I don't think it's sunk in how big a job this is! I suggest you do a sample run of the scans to see if it's even practical. The quality of the documents will have a big effect on how well the OCR works.
