Hey i have about 1.2TB of data thats shared across a 5 PC and 1 PS3 network.
Now all of this data is on my PC. Would it be better for me to start thinking about getting a dedicated server. Its because my PC isnt always on and if someone wants to watch a Video in the theater room i have to turn my PC on.(None of the Videos are illegal all recored from TV source) I find compressing the files to a xvid cocdec or something similar doesnt support everything. Example surround sound and 1080i HD and PS3 support. So i leave it in an uncompressed AVI format, thus the large amount of space. As i dont know anything about severs could anyone link me to one, i have about $500-700. Things in mind... Low power consumption Low noise Extra space for HDD's Able to run a small game server (if i feel like a LAN game or other ppl come round with their PC's) Also if the server has 2x 1gb LAN ports could they both be connected to the same router one in port 1 and the other in port 2. Note i wont be purchasing a server right away possible in June 08.

Re: Just a question.
The price you're talking about, I'd be looking at an NAS box. Here's a few to consider: http://dealnews.com/search.html?search=nas&x=0&y=0

Re: Just a question.
Did you look at the list. That's the current deals on NAS boxes.
They change regularly, so just watch that space.
