Re: happy days in canada

While P2P is not illegal, even in the US, most of the content exchanged using P2P networks is illegal.

In any case, our forum rules preempt the legality or illegality of P2P.

Re: happy days in canada

I agree the act of having a P2P client on your pc is not illegal.

Bittorrent is a perfectly legal P2P client.

However its about 60% of the files available via Bittorrent that are illegal.

But I know a lot of legal gaming sites like FilePlanet are providing Bittorrent links for demos/mods/wallpapers etc etc

I really like Bittorrent because it takes a lot of the stress off fileplanet's and any other website's servers and puts it on the people who want the file!

Re: happy days in canada

the reason it became legal in Canada was because they could not argue that p2p sharing network isnt the same as share a cd with your friend or relative in the end and once u buy the cd or dvd u should be able to do as u please with it

Actually, the real percentages of illegal P2P traffic is in the high 90's.

Re: happy days in canada

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police has shifted its focus from the enforcement and persecution of personal home users to the actual source providers. For example, Demonoid, a fairly popular semi-private bittorrent tracker distributing pirated software, music, and videos, was somewhat recently taken down in Canada. The only difference is that resources are being focused in stopping the sources, as distributors used to find Canada as a "safe haven". This is no longer true.

Oh and I personally know someone who has received two legal Cease and Desists for illegal downloading up here in the great white north. Yes folks, it's illegal here in Canada.
