home network file sharing acess.
hello, I am running a home network with 4 computers total.
1 main hub with the majority of hd space which is hard line connected to the wireless router. the rest are laptops ( 2 pc and one mac) until recently I have had the only 2 computers in my house and was able to share files with little restrictions across the main hub where I keep many home movies, family pictures, music, office work and my tablet. now that my son has his laptot I would like to add him to the network file sharing system I have set up. but there are shared file directories which I would like to restrict to my tablet ( ie office work) I'm having a hard time figuring out how to do this. as is stands. i have 2 hard drives shared one i wish to share with all and the other only with my tablet. |

Re: home network file sharing acess.
What is the version/patch level of the Windows in use on the "server"? If it's XP-Home, you have limited security options.

Re: home network file sharing acess.
do you have windows xp home or professional ?
home uses simple file sharing and professional you can turn off simple file sharing. Could you describe your network again starting with your router what is connected to it , also wired or wireless your operating systems and if xp are they home or professional do you use windows firewall or any other firewall product |
