Question Accessing and Working on a networked PC

Hi everyone

I work in a small office and my computer is the host computer for our small network.

My employer wants me to be able to see his e-mail and do his electronic filing from my pc, is this possible now we are networked? Or would I have to purchase some extra software to enable me to do this?

I have yet to check out Remote Desktop capabilities. But if these are not in place, I would grateful and welcome any suggestions.

Many Thanks in anticipation of a reply.

Re: Accessing and Working on a networked PC

Hi,
Is this network a workgroup? What type of network is it? Remote Desktop will actually log him off and log you on, so it's not the route to go. Are you using Outlook for your e-mail? He can give you permissions to view his e-mail in outlook (tools, options, delegates) so that you can view his e-mail (file, open, other users folder). But this is all dependant on how you are networked.

Thanks for your reply Kinbard. The network is wireless and only 2 pc's yes we both have outlook. So pcs are not networked via a separate server.

Do you have an e-mail server? How are your outlook accounts setup?

Re: Accessing and Working on a networked PC

You could just download teamviewer and install it as a service option number 2 in the installer and set a password and then you can loginto it from anywhere as long as you know his host number and have the password..

Re: Accessing and Working on a networked PC

Ok, if you are on the same network your boss can make you a delegate and you can see his e-mails. Everything elses can be set up to share so that you have access to the files.

UltraVNC will do the trick.

Re: Accessing and Working on a networked PC

For some reason there is no delegation option on the email account. So I would be unable to carry this out.

I will definately look at software like teamviewer and John's suggestion.

Someone else informed me of another piece of software called Workgroupshare do any more pc techs know of it?

Thanks for all the replies.

Re: Accessing and Working on a networked PC

VNC (RealVNC, UltraVNC, TightVNC, etc) and RDP (Remote Desktop/Terminal Services) are two popular and common ways to remotely connect to other systems. There is a significant amount of documentation and various guides out there on how to use them to your liking. They're also free.

There are other solutions out there, however the above are preferred by many.
