Problems Browsing XP network
Here is my issue, I have 2 computers on a small land all connected via a Linksys BEFSR41 V4.1 Router that connects to a Motorola Cable modem this completes the netwrok layout. Inter net works fine, Peer 2 peer works fine, FTP works fine, I can Ping all computers on the net work. All computer on the network are Windows XP Pro Full updates, current to today 5/25/07 @ 3:59PM EST. This happend yesterday suddenly I was browsing the network VIA network places, I had opened a share on one of the other computers and it was browsong very slowly, suddenly the share window closed, and I was no lnger able to access the computer with the share. the computer set up is as follows: computer A (My Documents shared) Computer B File server, Computer C (my documents shared) Now I use computer A ,
Computer A can access it's own share and Computer B, but not Computer C Computer B can access it's own share but not computer A or C Computer C can access it's own share and Computer B, But not computer A Here is where I have gotten with this Issue, From computer A I can type \\computerC\my documents\ and it will oopen the share and I can use it. I cannot go to network places>workgroup computers>computerC (I get a message "\\ComputerC is not accessible. You might not have Permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Acess is denied" ) I Also tried to map the share on Computer C manually, after settign up the map drive to \\computerC\mydocuments\ Mapped as drive Z , when i try to open the mapped drive it says please go to Control Panel to install and configure system componets. (Please note: I have 2 mapped drives x: and y: that are mapped to Computer B that work fine) I have come to terms that the issue is with Computer A and C, because both of them I recently used the TCP/IP Optimiser on. This issue started 4 days after that tool was used. Between the share working and not working nothing was changed, rebooted, modified, nor has any spyware, malware, graywere, or viruses been found or located. Browse service is running Server Service is running Windows fireWall Service is runing (but firewall disabled through control panel) Windows simple file shareing is enabled File and print shareing is installed NetBios is enabled on TCP/IP I have changed the workgroup of the machines I have changed the machine names/network names I have completly removed the network adaptor and then reinstalled with new drivers. I have removed all protocals, services from the network adaptor reinstalled all protocals and services on the network adaptor. I have restored the Winsock, lsp, and done a windows repair on the TCP/IP stack. Still nothing. I have followed every microsoft knowldge base artical on problems with the windows Browse service. (Please note I DO NOT have any properties for File and print shareing, when i choose it the properties button grays out) Any Ideals? |

Re: Problems Browsing XP network
Please don't post multiple threads on the same issue. You already have a thread going here: Cannot open network computers
