Print Sharing on p2p

I have set up a p2p network, I have one printer connected to a single machine. I can file share without any problems, firewalls have been turned off for debugging, printer has been shared and installed/setup on all other machines.

When i print from the pc that is connected to the printer it works fine but when i print from one of the pc's on the network the document just sits in the print que and blocks anything else that is going to the printer.

XP can sometimes auto detect a shared printer on the network and when i use this option rather than setting it up myself it works without any problems so i know in theory that it will work.

I have set up hundres of machines and networks but this one problem has me boggled.

Re: Print Sharing on p2p

Just to add:

The printers have all been Epson C84, C86 & D88's. The HP I installed today was fine.

I have also noticed that PC's sharing epson printers hang or crash, Epson's printer monitoring software seems to cause problems.

This maybe the answer but it would be good to find a cure rather than just swapping the printers.

Re: Print Sharing on p2p

Are you installing the printer monitoring software on each computer or just the one that the printer is installed on?

Re: Print Sharing on p2p

I'm installing the print driver on the local machine, then the network machines must get the software from that.

I'm starting to think that the Epson software has a bug and does not work well on a network.

Re: Print Sharing on p2p

I would only install the software and drivers on the machine that has the printer and just install the drivers on the networked machines.

Re: Print Sharing on p2p

I have only installed the software on the PC that has the printer attached. The machines on the network must install the Epson monitoring software when they install the print driver and there is nothing to let me stop it from doing that.

Re: Print Sharing on p2p

This may be a vendor specific problem. Have you tried to contact Epson with this problem?
