home network xp home

I have networked my laptop and pc via xp home. I have shared a hard drive on the laptops which has the work that I want access. I can not access the drives or any shared folders on the laptop from PC via Ms Dos or Ms Dos edit. How can i do this.

Did you map the drive to a drive letter? That should allow MS-DOS applications to access the remote share.

I'm assuming you're using a command prompt, not real MS-DOS, right? If so, right click on Network Places, select the drive letter you'd like to use locally, and then use the Browse... button to find the network share you'd like to map to the drive letter.

this solves part of the problem. but now the problem that I have is the c drive on the laptop. I have two drives c and d. I cannot share the whole d: drive even though right clicking will let me do that. Then now I can not share the c: or any of its folders. None of them show up on the system.

What happens when you try to share the drive? Is this XP-Home or XP-Pro?

I have managed to solve the problem along the lines of what you have suggested. I was not looking for the drives in the right place. Thanks for your help and you basically solved it.
