from pc to a mac

i recently bought a macbook (just the other day actually) and i wanna transfer all my files from the pc to the macbook via firewire. i have no idea how to do this though. its clear to me that you don't just plug in the firewire and voila i can see the computers... what do i need to do? also, they're not on the same internet connection (2 ISPs)

would you not try using a cross over cat5 cable? i don't think you even need to install appletalk protocol on the pc anymore. apples use tcp/ip, so just do the usual ip addresses for both and see will they see each other. then share whatever resources you want to.

so you have moved the files from the pc to the mac? i've used a usb2 sync cable before, but it came with software to do this. not very stable, but it did work. the NICs using a crossover cable should transend any communication problems.

firewire uses 400/800Mbps and obviously gigabit ethernet is 1000Mbps. usb2 runs at 480Mbps and usb1 runs at 12Mbps
