Streaming Videos

We have just installed a Microsoft Media Server, and we going to backup all our curriculum/subject videos and DVDs onto it. So they are available over our LAN so any teacher can access videos on demand.

We have over 300 DVD & video to encode,
what format/size/quility would be suggested?

Thanks for any suggestions?

DIVX(.avi) is the best format. If you use something like DVD Ripper Platium, then the quality given is fine, but 720 X 576 at 128KBPS is good. Takes up about 1GB per DVD.

DIVX(.avi) ?

Is DivX (.avi) a variable bit rate format,

I have been looking at Microsoft Media Encoder,
and the choice of formats is mind boggling?

Also when I look at DVD's they all have individual VOB files,

I just want a single file for each DVD, in a nice small file
that looks OK on full screen video.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

- If you make it to Divx, it is just one file. DVD ripper platium is a great program for ripping DVDs.
