2000 box drops connection to share on Xp

I hope this is the right place to post this, I put it in the Win 2000 group but have not gotten any response.
I have a Win2000 pro machine that connects to a shared printer on a XP Pro box. The XP Pro box is on AD.
You can connect to the printer fine but as soon as you restart or shut down the 2000 machine it drops the printer when it comes back up. The account on the 2000 is a power user but I also tried it from Admin and samething. The firewall on the XP machine is turned off.
Thanks for any help/info.

I suspect I'd try connecting the printer to the server or a stand-alone print server if this were my configuration.
