LAN problem. Most computers can access files on most computers, but one cannot.

I have 4 computers on my home office LAN, and 3 work fine. All are WinXP; 2 are Pro and 2 are HE. The Pros and HE1 are fine; but I can see (shared) files on HE2 but I cannot access any of the files. Windows Network Troubleshooter was no help. When I open 'View workgroup computers' on HE2, and open HE2, and click on a shared file in HE2, I get the error message "...(file).. is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. ... The network path was not found." All shared files on HE2 are unrestricted access. Same error message when the Pros and HE1 try to access HE2. The 2 Pros and HE1 can see files on HE2 but not open/access them. But HE2 can see and ACCESS files on the 2 Pros and HE1. It is just that files on HE2 can be seen but not accessed. Files on HE2 are shared at Level 5 -- they can be read and changed by anyone who can access the files.

Since Billy G. has not been any help, I thought this Forum is the place to go for expert help with all computer problems.

Thanks for your time and talent.

Try removing all the shares on the problem machine, reboot and then recreate the shares.

Do I need a Title for a Reply??

Thanks for the suggestion, as it sounded like a good idea.

But I did as you suggested -- removed all Share in HE2, rebooted, and before sharing anything, I looked at HE2 and was able to see/access Printers (none attached to HE2 was shared) and the Printers screen was indeed blank. Then I shared one HDD (C:) on HE2, and again opened the Workgroup screen on one of the Pros. I could see the shared C: HDD on HE2, but when I tried to access, I again got the ERROR screen just as before.

Any other suggestions??

DO this.
Right click My computer
click Manage
click Services
scroll to Routing...
left click Routing...
click Properties
click (General tab) Startup type and select Stop.

Try sharing, but DO NOT REBOOT before the attempt, which will start the service again. If this works, you'll then want to repeat the process and select Disabled at the last step.

In HE2, in Startup Type the options are: Automatic, Manual, Disabled -- no STOP option. It was Disabled when I opened the Properties screen.
This is probably another shortcoming of Home Edition.

Suggestion ??

NOTE:: Since HE1 is working well on the LAN, I am trying to make the Network settings in HE2 the same (hopefully) as HE1.

There are some differences in settings, but no effect on the problem yet seen.

OK, it was already stopped if it was disabled. Let's try:

Create a file in notepad named FIXANON.REG with the following contents:

------------------- Use text after this line -------------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa]
"restrictanonymous"=dword:00000000
------------------- Use text before this line -----------------

Double click on the file and say Yes to the merge into registry question.

Found solution to my problem!

Over the weekend, I Googled my error message and found a solution. It was solved by the procedure in link

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;177078

I added IRPStackSize to all computers on the LAN, after I had tried to add (i) just to the Server Pro, and then (ii) to server Pro and HE2. And that did not work. But adding IRPStackSize hex 32 or decimal 50 to all four computers, IT WORKED!

Since adding IRPStackSize worked, I did not try your suggestion, but thanks for hanging in there with your help/suggestions all the way.
