I have been having some troubles with my network and specifically one machine. I have a desktop machine hooked up directly to my router, and a laptop using wireless.
This has been together for over 4 years, and most recent change was 1 year ago I moved, but same network setup. But now, the desktop is inaccessible on the network. I can find, access and use files on the wireless laptop from both machines. But cannot access desktop from laptop. Get errors that network path not found. I tried removing and reinstalling ethernet adapter, microsoft file sharing, microsoft net client, already had netbios. I changed names of the workgroup names, I even tried using a wireless card on my desktop. No dice, can access the laptop, but it cannot access desktop. It was working 3 days ago, only new change was installing of the windows genuine advantage notification. Both are valid installs. Firewall is not running on the desktop, it was on the laptop (but it had never been an issue) even with it off did not make a difference. I cannot ping the desktop's IP (192.168.0.2), but can ping laptop from the desktop (192.168.0.3). Also noticed I cannot keep a stable internet connection on the desktop my AIM logs on and off every 5 minutes. Don't have that on the wireless laptop. I check router and reflashed it. Nothing has helped. Any suggestions? |

I just realized, I am unable to ping this machine. I disconnected it from router, hooked up cable modem direct. Still people cannot ping the machine. I have always had microsoft's firewall off. I have never installed any other firewall. I even disabled norton a/v and internet worm as I have read in the past it can do crazy things, but thats not it either. What it is the deal!?

Well, it appears some firewall component somewhere is blocking the access. Next stop would be a HijackThis log to see what's running.
