Notebook Adapter Won't Connect to Internet

I have tried both a Linksys PCM200 and D-Link DFE-690TXD in a Dell Inspiron 2500 and both failed to work. The D-Link card is currently installed. I can ping my printer, router, and another computer on the network but I can't ping anything outside the network. I tried unistalling and reinstalling the cards without any luck. Linksys tech support said their card was bad. I think it's something with the hardware or WinME running on this machine. When I boot up, I get a high pitch bah-boop sound that does not normally happen without the network card. Also, The DIAG software with the D-Link card failed the loopback test. Any thoughts on where to go from here?

Can you ping them by name as well as IP address? If Linksys says their card is bad, are they shipping you a new one? Can you access the router's configuration pages using the machine?

Are there any other machines on the network using the same router? Do thay work properly?

Run, COMMAND to open a DOS window:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.
