Could use some help..

I recently reformatted one of the computers on my network. After I reinstalled the basic drivers that came with the computer I tried to go online. It didnt work, however, my other computer can go online. Ive tried almost everything from resetting modems, disconnected reconnected, unplugging and what not. I just cant seem to get it. I have cable and I should not have to run the new connection wizard (so it says). Its saying I do not have the hardware to setup the network when I have everything i have installed on it.

I have a dell 2350 :/
Motorola Cable modem
Speedstream router
Linksys broadband router (for vonage)

The computer that can go online is NOT the host. I need to get the network and internet to work so I can retrieve my stuff from the spare computer.

Im really out of ideas, if anyone could help itd be great. thx.

Hello and welcome to TSF.
Check the device manager and see if the LAN/network connection isn't having any problems. Also check that your network is configured correctly for DHCP or Static.

It doesnt show that there are any problems with the lan/network connection. It doesnt even show that there IS a network connection.

The network adapter I have on the spare computer with the working internet is a SMC EZ card 10/100 PCI(smc1211tx). Which i think it where the problem is. The computer i need the connection on does not show that kind of network adapter. I think it should be the same? Im not really sure.

When I try to "update" drivers on the device manager it leads to it attempting to go online and look for the hardware.... but i cant go online.....

Im really trying to avoid paying a lot for a simple repair like this. I should be able to get it.. just.. how..

Check in the BIOS and make sure that the onboard LAN is enabled.

You can download the lastest network drivers here:
http://support.dell.com/support/down...1&fileid=84196

You best bet would be to use a flash drive or burn it onto a CD to load them on the machine.

I just notice that you have 2 routers. How is you network configured? What is your network topology?

I got into my router via ip and it is dhcp and is enabled. Fiddling with that now..

Well.. Both of the comps are connected to the linksys vonage thing, then from there a wire goes into another router (speedsteam one), then from there another wire goes to the cable modem, with one wire going to the cable, one to router, and one back to the linksys thing.

Im checking again to see if i have to redo anything with my router connections, im hoping it just takes a few wire pullings to fix :|

You might want to loose the Speedstream router. Just connect the linksys router to the cable modem.
