Network Adapter Problem
My friend has a network adapter driver that is not working.
IEEE 802.11g Wireless Cardbus/ACI Adpater is the name of it. It said the driver can not start (Code 10) I tried to download the driver from somewhere but keep getting 404 errors. Please help? |

Re: Network Adapter Problem
Since it is a CARDBUS adapter, I'm left to assume it is on a laptop?
If so, just to the right or left side of where the card is inserted, there should be a small plastic slide button. If you push it softly, it should come out of its house; once the plastic slide is out, you simply push it back in and it should eject the card. I prefer to do this with the system powered off. However, they are usually HOT SWAP capable. I.e. can be taken out with the system running. Thanks! |

Re: Network Adapter Problem
Interesting... Does the slot where this card is installed have the button on it I described earlier? As in is it a CARDBUS PCI adapter card?
Also, if you go into DEVICE MANAGER; right click MY COMPUTER, PROPERTIES, HARDWARE tab, DEVICE MANAGER... Right click on the DEVICE you are having problems with, click on the DETAILS tab, get the VENDOR ID which will look something like this: PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_167B&SUBSYS_280A103C&REV_02\4&E965EF1&0&0038 You cannot right click to get this information copied, you will have to highlight the strange look name, then hold the CTRL key and press the letter C one time. Then you can paste it into your response. Thanks! |

Re: Network Adapter Problem
No, the adapter card has dissapeared from the network adapter in device manager.
So he can't get the VENDOR ID, also, there isn't a button where the card is installed. |

Re: Network Adapter Problem
If the adapter card does not appear anywhere in Device Manager, and it's properly seated in the slot, it's most likely dead.

Re: Network Adapter Problem
In addition to JOHNWILL, it could also be that it is now properly installed and doesn't stand out with the ? or ! point anymore. Check under network adapters to see if this is the case.
Also, you will most likely have to pull the card to get the make and model number off of it. As JOHNWILL stated, make sure it is seated properly in the slot. Thanks! |

Re: Network Adapter Problem
Well, I really covered that by saying "anywhere in Device Manager", right?

Re: Network Adapter Problem
JOHNWILL, yes, but I just wanted to POINT out (to KINGBOO150) that they may have been looking for a device that did not load instead of looking in the Network Adapters to see if it finally loaded. Hence, the disappearance. I was just adding a little to it! LOL

Re: Network Adapter Problem
He says it is properly installed and it is not displayed in the network adapter.
Also, I have a question, I kind've new at this but, is the adapter the card attached with the antenna where you connect to other routers/internet and stuff? My friend also doesn't know how to take out the card because he doesn't understand anything about it. He can't get any help because he can only get help from his uncle but he went to China and my friend lives in the U.S. He isn't coming back till next tuesday and he can't wait. Thanks |

Re: Network Adapter Problem
Hi
A CARDBUS adapter is usually a “laptop” adapter that slides into the expansion slot of a laptop. However, they also make PCI cards that can be installed into a regular PC to utilize the adapter in a desktop PC. However, it seems that the card in question, per your descriptions, is a standard desktop wireless card identified by both “wireless” and “802.11g” in your original description. In which case, this would be the card where the ANTENNA is attached. Is there some way that you can get a screenshot of the DEVICE MANAGER with everything expanded EXCEPT for the SYSTEM DEVICES and UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS portions of the hardware? This may help a little in seeing what is in the system. Another option would be to use Kaspersky’s GETSYSTEMINFO utility and post a link back to the uploaded file here. Here is a link that covers the utility and also provides detailed instructions on using it. http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showtopic=36444 Thanks! |

Re: Network Adapter Problem
I don't think there is a way to take a screenshot from his computer because he wouldnt be able to send it to anyone even me.
I would be able to give you a list of whats installed in the device manager if it is necessary. |

Re: Network Adapter Problem
Hi,
I can't kindve understand what you mean by "List all devices that are NOT in any of the following categories:", do you mean to list all devices from those categories? Also, is the info. label like this? "!" |

Re: Network Adapter Problem
Lol, oh, excuse for my stupidity.
I can't seem to create an info label. Anyway, Here are the categories : Floppy Disk Drives : Floppy Disk Drives Network Adapters : BIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter IEEE 802.11g Wireless Cardbus/PCI Adapter (Which has dissapeared) Ports : Communications Port [Com1] Printer Port [Ltt1] That should be it, there also arn't any symbols on each on one of them. Also, he said when he checked back his computer, he said the network adapter has came back, he tried connecting to the internet and was unable to locate his router. He then restarted his computer and then the network adapter was gone. Thanks! |
