Re: Network Adapter Problem

So, then when you talked to him last, the only item listed in under network adapters was the VIA RHINE II adapter?

There isn't a whole lot I can do to help him at this point. He will have to take the card out of his PC and get the Make and Model of the adapter. This would be the one with antenna on it. If he does decide to pull the card, sometimes inserting the card into a different slot (if available) will solve a lot of issues.

Either that or if it appears again in his device manager, he needs to get the vendor information off it BEFORE he reboots again.

CODE 10 usually indicates a faulty driver and/or faulty hardware. The most common is a faulty driver.

Also, has he checked his computer for viruses and malware?

And no, there was not stupidity on your part at all. Not even close. I would have asked for specific ones instead of listing the ones I didn't want, but since they tend to vary on each PC, I thought I would try listing the ones I didn't want.

Thanks!

Re: Network Adapter Problem

I guess he would wait for assistance to take out the card of the make and model because he doesn't know how.

If he does get the adapter back, I will be sure get the Vendor ID.

He has recently check his computer for viruses and malware, and got a trojan which was removed.

Edit : Yes the only thing under network adapter was the rhine II

Re: Network Adapter Problem

Hi and thanks for the update....

Anyway, we are a step closer to figuring out whether or not we have a hardware problem or a driver problem. However, you did ID the card, but there are 4 different revisions for that specific model.

The versions are:
  • C1.XR
  • B1.1R
  • B1
  • A
All of which seem to have different drivers. Here is a link to the driver page:

http://www.trendnet.com/downloads/li...=367&SUBMIT=Go

Here is what he should do to get us moving on this one a little faster:
  1. Take the card out of the machine
  2. Write down all of the information he can find on the card
  3. Submit the information back here
  4. Reinstall the card, but this time put the card into a different PCI slot if he has one available. Sometimes simply putting the card into a different slot will solve a lot of problems.
Thanks!
