Cannot acquire network

Hi,

we have a trendnet router, and three pcs are hardwired to it and two laptops occasionally connect to it via wi-fi so the router would not seem to be the problem.

I used to be able to connect from my XP SP3 PC but no longer can and I get a continual "cannot acquire network address" - using a USB dongle.

I can see both our router and others in the building but can't connect to ours and haven't tried connecting to others.

I read the following a while back and tried it,

While in the wireless mode on a computer try these following tests.

..1 Open command prompt and ping 127.0.0.1
....If works then your IP stack is considered initialized
....If failed then stack failure and TCP/IP needs to be re-installed

The above works.

..2 Open command prompt and ping IP address of local host
....If works the NIC is working
....If failed then hardware/driver problem with NIC

84.108.170.75 - not reachable

..3 Open command prompt and ping the default gateway
....If works then then can communicate with local network
....If fails then have local network problem any where from host to router

192.168.10.1 - not reachable

..4 Open command prompt and ping remote node
....If works then you know network path is working as well as all protocols
....If fails then remote node's network has an issue.
..5 If steps 1-4 work then it most likely is a DNS issue

4 I didn't know how to do.

I have tried releasing and renewing ipconfig and tried turning wireless zero config on and off.

Any help would be much appreciated.
