I've had this problem for the past two weeks. It just started suddenly. I have a dell inspiron 1501 running win xp sp3 and it has the broadcom 440x nic. The LAN connection says it's connected but it browses the internet really slow or not at all. The wireless connection runs fine. I've tried repairing the connection but it doesn't work. I took it to tech support on my campus and they tried connecting to the school network via an ethernet cable and it had the same problem. It connects and says that it's connected but it drops packets like crazy! They pinged google.com and found that %50 or the packets were dropped. They checked the properties settings and found all the settings to be fine (automatically detect ip and dns). The tech said with the packets dropping it was a hardware or driver issue. I downloaded the most updated driver directly from broadcom and it says that there are no driver issues when I check device manager and adapter is recognized. I don't know what's going on, please help!

Re: nic lan problem?!
I just ran a broadcom diagnostic utility test on the nic and it failed the control registers test while it passed everything else. Anyone know what that may mean? Is the nic just busted?
