Can't access the web, even though it says connected.
I use a Dell Latitude 510. It has windows XP installed on it. I am not sure what kind of internet provider my apartment complex uses. I hooked the Ethernet cable to my laptop. It said connected so i proceeded to access the web. But Mozilla firefox says, sever not found but internet explorer is saying web page cannot be displayed. I downloaded a program called RegCure. It did nothing but tell me i had over 800 problems that it could not fix, so i ran AVG, Spybot search and destroy as well as ADware personal and nothing. I went in to my LAN connection and went to properties to internet protocol (TCP/IP) and tried to obtain my IP and DNS sever but it did nothing. I am still unable to access the internet, i know it is working because i am writing this from my desk top and it uses the same internet. i know it's not the cable or the wall connection because i hooked my BF's laptop up to it and it worked just fine. Please i really need help.

Re: Can't access the web, even though it says connected.
Thank you for your help. I fixed the problem myself. All i had to do was go in to Network connection, go into my LAN, hit properties, go to Internet protocol (TCP/IP), hit properties and then click Obtain my IP address automatically and Obtain my DNS server address automatically. And restart my computer. After that it figured out what to do. I use to be a computer technician but i worked mostly with hardware and a little bit of software. The person who originally owned it didn't have a few things installed properly with the internet card. After fixing those problems and doing what i just did, it's now up and working. :)
