My wifes computer is an emachine T3640 with Vista and for some reason it won't connect with the internet. I tried The network management thing to no avail and even did a system restore. I still get "a cable is not plugged into the modem". I got new cable, changed connection on router, even used the cable and connection from my working computer to it and the same results. I went through the test proceedures from emachines trouble shooting guide and it says it's probably the eternet card. My problem is it looks as though the eternet card is hard wired unless the phone modem card is the same thing. HELP!!!

Re: ethernet problem
and welcome to the ForumIt probably ishard wired, but can fail. When you look in Device Manager so you see a yellow ! in front of the Network Adaptor? Have you tried a different network cable? Did ever work?

Re: ethernet problem[MOVED]
Ive not seen a a combination modem and network adaptor.
Let's try this: power cycle the modem. router and pc . . thru all off . . turn on the modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize and then turn on the router, then the pc. With the PC connected to the Modem/Router Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD At the > prompt type type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command. Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Come back here and Paste the results in a message. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
