Ethernet Port stays on
On my Windows XP SP3 computer, my Local Area Connection is constantly on without any cables attached to it. It says its status is limited or no connectivity. The ethernet port on the back of my computer stays green to mean a cable is plugged in but no cables are plugged into it. I have a VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter 3.84.0.1 which my computer says is working properly. If I try uninstalling, repairing, or updating it, the process freezes and I have to go to the task manager to end it. What can I do to fix it so I can use a ethernet cable for internet? Thanks

Re: Ethernet Port stays on
You need to replace the LAN card. If that's a Laptop, you will need to get a repair shop to look at it. From what you've described, you probably had a power surge that damaged the LAN card.

Re: Ethernet Port stays on
Hello Homerunhiter,
Well you're in luck. If you can get your hands on a new LAN card, you can disable the one on the Motherboard and use the new plug-in card instead. You will need to find out what kind of "Bus" your computer uses. All modern desktop computers support either PCI or PCI Express. And you can usually get one for about $20. |
