Ethernet frustration, passes cable inspector, but won't complete link
Hello all,
My thanks in advance for any help on this issue. I have run 2 lengths of Cat6 (it was cheaper than the cat5e I was looking at go figure) and the pull went just fine. The casing (in the areas where I can verify) has not been compromised, there haven't been any kinks or sharp bends. But when I put my RJ45 ends on, it failed the test. So I figured I had just wired it wrong. After redoing both ends multiple times, there was still no luck. Sometimes it would pass if I held the cable tester just right and the moment i moved it, all the fails would come up. So I tried using a couple of krone punchdown jacks. Wired it up to T-568B, pluged in some short patch cables and viola! Greens ALL AROUND! But when I plugged those patch cables into my router and the other into a computer, nothing happens. No lights, no connection, no nothing. Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong? Or did these runs just crap out on me and I need to repull (and not be so cheap with my cable?) I'm using a D-Link WBR-1310 which says it has it's own little cable tester, and even it says that the cable is good to go. ![]() But it still says "disconnected" It's done this with BOTH cables. One run is 240' and the other is 120' (roughly) so I should be within the 300' limit for cat6. I work for a local university's IT department, and I do this pulling and installing cat6 all the stinking time. So I'm stumped. |

There was some cheap 26AWG wire floating around a while back. Should be 23AWG or 24AWG or it won't make good contact with the pins.
