network cable unplugged!!!!!

Hi Guys

my comp keeps on saying my network cable is unplugged. could you guys give me some help on what might.
so far into the problem

changed cables problem still occurs

the existing NIC is integrated into the motherboard and i have just DL the new drivers for it

installed a new NIC it still disconects and reconnects but at a slower speed. havent installed the driver yet for it.

havent really tried anything with the router.

oh my other comp is a laptop and works fine with the network

any hints?

maybe think it could be with configuration of the comp or router but dont know what to set and where to start

Have you tried a different port on the router?

Re: network cable unplugged!!!!!

Sounds like your network controller is damaged, have you had power failures or lightning strikes before this happened?

Re: network cable unplugged!!!!!

yeah i tried different port on the router still no change

no i dont think remember any power failures of late.

update on the testing ive done to try and pinpoint the error:
i tried the connection with another comp and it has the same problem
but my when i connect my laptop it seems to work fine.

could it be a virus?

Re: network cable unplugged!!!!!

Also have tried to ping the router

on the integrated NIC into the mother board it says
request timed out all the time

but

for the NIC is plugged in it comes back with
about 10% of error
of either "hardware error"
or "request timed out"

could it be a setting i have configured wrong on my comp or router.

oh forgot to mention its a modem/router for adsl if that makes a difference.

Re: network cable unplugged!!!!!

This is usually a bad cable, bad port on the router, or a defective NIC.

Try a new cable, and a different port on the router. If that doesn't do it, you might want to consider a PCI NIC to test if the NIC is bad, they can be had for around $10 or so.

Re: network cable unplugged!!!!!

would you have any other suggestions as i ahve already changed cables, switched ports and tried a new NIC in the comp with no avail.

the same happens if i connect the router to another comp which uses wireless so i hvent noticed it on that one. but when i connect to a friends laptop by wire it works.

i have also reset my router with no changes.
