New Gigabit ethernet card & Verizon
Hey all I'm new to the forums and have a simple question I think,
At home I have Verizon FIOS and recently there were big storms and knocked out my onboard ethernet port... so I went out and bought a new PCI plug and play card from Linksys. (Linksys 10/100/1000 Gigabit network adapter model # EG1032) I go to play it in my computer, the computer reads it but it can not connect to the internet. It says there is "Limited or No connectivity." I also have another plug n play card from a few years back in my other computer that I took out and tried it in the broken computer, it works perfectly. So I guess my real question is, does Verizon FIOS support Gigabit ethernet cards? Or do I need to get a new ethernet wire or adapter? or is the card simply faulty.. or anything else.. Thanks, Matt - I'm not sure if it matters or not, but both the computers mentioned above are running on XP Home SP2 |

Re: New Gigabit ethernet card & Verizon
I'd say the card is bad if you installed the drivers correctly. Of course, we'd have to see some diagnostics to be sure what is happening. Since I have Verizon FiOS and gigabit all around, clearly this is not a Verizon issue.
With the failing card plugged in and connected with a wired connection, please do this. Hold the Windows key and press R, then type devmgmt.msc Please respond to all the following steps.
Next, I'd like to see this. Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command: Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command. IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: New Gigabit ethernet card & Verizon
You appear to have a good connection to the router.
Try these simple tests. Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt: In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key: NOTE: For the items below in red surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous IPCONFIG command output! IPCONFIG /ALL PING <computer_IP_address> PING <default_gateway_address> PING <dns_servers> PING 206.190.60.37 PING yahoo.com Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard. Paste the results in a message here. <computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. <default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. <dns_servers> - The IP address of the first (or only) address for DNS Servers, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: New Gigabit ethernet card & Verizon
Hmm, so I left my computer on all day with the gigabit card in it and somehow windows seemed to work the problem out. Always before I would turn the computer on, it not work then turn it off quickly. I guess leaving it on let it solve itself out? I have no idea, but sorry for wasting your time and thank you very much for the help. I did not know that it was even possible for a computer to automatically fix its own problems like this.
Thanks again for your help, Matt |
