[SOLVED] Question about WPA

I have a modem/router connected to my computer by ethernet cable and my daughter's computer shares my internet connection using a usb wireless adapter. There is no security enabled on either connection at the moment.

Do I need to set up WPA on both? If so, which should be set up first - the modem router or the wireless adapter?

Re: Question about WPA

You need to login to your modem/router configuration page and then setup the security you feel to use (WEP or WPA).

On your daughter's computer you will see then a security enable network, need to type the passphrase or security key to be able to reconnect to your network.

Re: Question about WPA

The exact make, model, and hardware version of the router would be useful here.

Re: Question about WPA

Hi both

It's an unlocked BT Voyager 2091. I believe it's sometimes known as a Dynalink 2091.

The usb wireless adapter is a BT voyager 1050.

Re: Question about WPA

I don't find a user's manual for that router, but if you can login to the web based setup, it should be pretty easy to find the wireless configuration page.

Re: Question about WPA

I managed it. I went to http://192.168.1.1 on my computer, logged in, clicked on security and set it up with a password. Then, on my daughter's computer, I clicked on the green striped thing in the taskbar, picked my modem/router and clicked ADD. It asked for the password key, I typed it in and it connected.

Thanks for your help. I was a bit uncertain whether to set it up for the modem/router because that's connected to my computer by wire.
