Strange NIC Issue
On a Dell computer running Win XP Home, I use the onboard network card to connect to the Internet. When I attach the network cable, it begins acquiring an IP address and is successful in doing so. So after an IP is obtained and everything looks as it's working fine, I try to browse the Internet with my web browser, and it cannot access any sites. So then I try using command prompt to ping the local host and all 4 packets fail saying:
PING: transmit failed, error code 5 PING: transmit failed, error code 5 PING: transmit failed, error code 5 PING: transmit failed, error code 5 and it has 100% loss of all the data it tried to ping the network card with. I have never seen this before, and I put a discrete PCI network card in an open PCI slot to see if that made any difference and it didn't make one difference at all. Still exactly the same. If anybody has any ideas of what this is, I would greatly appreciate some advice. Thanks. |

Re: Strange NIC Issue
Okay I found the solution and wanted to post it in case of similar situations. I found some registry errors showing to be associated with McAfee. So I went and downloaded the McAfee Removal Tool (MCPR) and ran it to completely remove all McAfee software on the system. Rebooted, and everything works just fine. Command line tools work and Internet browsing couldn't work better now. So keep this in mind if you're seeing similar symptoms on your machine. Thanks for this forum.
