Adding Cables

Can I increase the speed of my network by adding additional Ethernet cables between my eight port router and 24-port switch? The router does not have a utility to aggregate ports together. I am just curious as to whether adding additional links between two devices increases the speed because it spreads out the traffic?

Is your 8 port router actually a router with 8 different IP address assignable ports?

If its a just a switch built into a router, only one link will get used at a time to prevent loops (spanning tree)

The only way to get round this is with LACP aggregation which as you say your router doesnt support.
