Hi, I just built me a new computer. Everythings fine, except I get a really slow connection to the internet. Here are the specs for the computer:
Processor: Intel i7 920 Motherboard: Asus p6t x58 with built in network adapter: Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC Graphics card: XFX Geforce gtx 260 896MB Core 216 Power supply: Chieftec super series 850w Memory chips: Corsair dhx+ 1600mhz 3x1GB Operating system: Windows XP (fresh install on older hard drive) At first I tried using the old partition on the old hard drive (from the previous computer build) It did not work with the setup, so I simply partitioned the hard drive. Installing XP went just fine. I installed the motherboard drivers and everything else. (however forgot to install the network adapter driver before attempting to make a Local Area Connection in the Network Connections window, I couldnt, as there was no installed network adapter.) Then after installing the network adapter driver, and making a Local Area Connection, i got connected to the internet. However it's really slow. Strange thing is, it's only the D/L speed that's slow. A speed test shows a 300-500kbit/s D/L speed, and a 4000-5000kbit/s upload speed. At usenet I get a 85-100kB/s speed where I was previously getting 1400-1600kB/s. Iv'e already tried to uninstall the driver for the Network adapter, both through the driver installer, and through Device Manager. It's basically no difference in speed between no installed driver and an installed driver (!!). I've also tried installing the device completely (in device manager) and rebooting the computer and installing it again, no difference. I'm sharing my connection with my neighbor and he has no problems with the speed. I think the problem lies in my computer. Anybody know what the solution could be? |

Re: New PC, Slow d/l speed with a fast connection
oh btw, I've got these question marks in my Device manager, one "SM bus controller", and 7 "System interrupt controller"s.
And i've tried going to Device Manager-> Network Adapter-> Properties window, Advanced tab, and tried different settings for "Speed & Duplex", and no difference in speed.... |

Re: New PC, Slow d/l speed with a fast connection
Hi there,
Check Asus's website for an updated drivers. Also download and install the latest chipset drivers for the motherboard and see if this process fixes your issues. |
