wireless limited conectivity O.o ???

Hey thnx 4 takin time to help me out.

Ok so my problom started when i moved house. My wireless worked fine on the modum/router (it was a d-link, not sure of the model). My adaptor is a D-link DWA - 110 and the new modum/router is a netgear DG834GSP (im pretty sure i read the right code on each xD)

So when i try to connect to the network it says "connecting" then it say "aquiring network address" then after awhile it says "limited or no connectivity blah blah blah"

At first i thought the WAP key or wqat eva might be wrong but we rang net gear and they gave us the key, hope they gave the right 1. Its not the internet (hence im on the net ATM on the other other computer) and its not the addaptor because i uninstaled my current addaptor and instaled the router that this computer uses, same result when i tryed to connect to the network, no sucsess, so i have the D-link addaptor back.

There was somthing odd though. my sister somhow figured out that if she fiddled around with the other networks (I.E tried to connect to another 1 then go back to ours and back and forth and just random stuff like that) then she could get my internet to work. ***. i also figured out that if i did the same the internet would "work" for long enough to load just 1 page, if i tried a page first it would come up, just say "the page could not be displayed" i tried refresh, it does nothing the if i time it right, when i start to attempt to connect to another network i could hit refresh and that page would load, but after that its gone hit refresh/try a new page again. Nothing.

Am i missing somthing??? plz help. Sorry if i went over board with the explinatoin.

Luke.

Re: wireless limited conectivity O.o ???

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

  • If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
  • For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
  • Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?
  • If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

Type the following commands on separate lines, following each one with the Enter key:

PING 206.190.60.37

PING yahoo.com

NBTSTAT -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: wireless limited conectivity O.o ???

1: Optus

2: The lable says "NETGEAR 54 Mbps Wireless ADSL Modum Router DG834GSP v3" i hope thats the info ur looking for.

3: WEP. Im now possitve that i have the right "key" i just tried it on my mums computer and it is the right key (i was uncertain before because mum couldn't remember what she set it up to be.)

4: XP err not sure of the patch level. (If the patch level refers to the updates then its the most recent)

Ok. Now yes, i dragged my computer to the modum and hooked in an ethernet cable and it works perfeclty.

Next, i tried to find a way to disable the encryption on the main computer but i couldnt find it.

Its not a router or modum/ISP issue 1 because im on the internet now and 2 because the main computer works fine (with wireless).

Ok so ill go through wat happens when i try to connect to the internet via wireless. It says "aquiring network addrerss"...... *waits* then after 2 mins it says "limited or no conectivity" then within 1 min it just says "connected". However the page just says "this page cannot be displayed" *hits refresh just to be sure* still nothing. it gives the option "Diagnose connection probloms" sure why not try it. After it ask me
to try these things iv already tried, like turn off the modum and wait a few mins, all it has to say is "Check the trouble shooting section of the manual that came with your modum and or router for more info. Please contact your ISP or the manufacturer of ur modum/router for assistance." blah blah i didnt expect much from that but i tried anyway.

*Goes to do the RUN CMD stuff*

Re: wireless limited conectivity O.o ???

You appear to have a good wireless connection, however that doesn't appear to be a connection to that Netgear router. That router should have a base address of 192.168.0.1, so the wireless connection you have it to someone else's network. That's probably part of the problem.

Re: wireless limited conectivity O.o ???

Oh. yeah that would be my sister when she was trying to "fix" it, she set all the networks in range to connect automatically. But even so im stilll unable to open any internet page. Ill take the liberty of turning off the conect automatically option to the other network then ill run the CMD things again so u can see wats wrong with MY network.

Re: wireless limited conectivity O.o ???

Now you have no connection at all.

I'd start by disabling all encryption and MAC filtering on your router, then remove any stored wireless profiles on the machine, finally search for new networks and see if you can connect properly.

Re: wireless limited conectivity O.o ???

Connect to the router with a wired connection and follow the startup instructions for your router. After logging into the configuration pages, you want to go to the wireless configuration pages.
