CAT6 support for 77 broadband channels at 550 MHz
Hi folks
I've got a specification for a project that requires the CAT6 cabling system to be able to support 77 channels of broadband at 550 MHz (for broadband applications, i.e. AV etc). Please note that the cable that has been approved for the project is CAT6 (and not CATa). I do know that CAT6 supports a maximum bandwidth of 250 MHz, and CAT6a 500 MHz. That has left me confused with the above requirement. I would like to know whether CAT6 would be able to fulfill this requirement or do we need to upgrade the cable to CAT6a. Your help is truly appreciated. Imran |

Re: CAT6 support for 77 broadband channels at 550 MHz
Some CAT6 cable has been sweet tested to handle up to 500 mhz which exceeds CAT6 specs with plenty of headroom, example http://www.blackbox.com/Store/Detail...YN870A-PB-1000
Or here are some more details: Description GigaTrue® 550 CAT6, 550-MHz Solid Bulk Cables, 4-Pair, 1000-ft. (304.8-m), Pull Box, PVC, Blue Further Details Guaranteed to meet or exceed ANSI/TIA/EIA-568-B.2-1 Category 6 and ISO/IEC 11801, Class E requirements. |

Re: CAT6 support for 77 broadband channels at 550 MHz
I have to say, I'd go back and tell them that the cable isn't specified for the bandwidth and for proper operation you should use the proper specification of cable. In spite of some "tested" cable, you're still not buying cable that is certified to run at the bandwidth you are looking for.
