a good switch replacement
hello everyone,
could anyone recommend me a good and dependable switch which will be used for 13 computers, 1 connection for a fingerprint machine, 1 connection for another switch, 1 connection for the (d-link) DSL router. the 13 computers are connected to a server which has a program that uses SQL server and Sybase and its heavy on data so can anyone recommend me a switch that can handle all these connections and data transmissions. and if changing from one switch to another new switch could there be any connection problems such as limited connectivity, speed connection issues or other problems ?

Re: a good switch replacement
I'd be considering gigabit connections for heavy traffic through the switch. Here's a list of available products.

Re: a good switch replacement
First off, CAT5e is fully specified for gigabit Ethernet, though obviously if you're running new cables, I'd probably do CAT6 anyway.
Generally, though not absolutely, going up in price for the switch will get you more features. I've had pretty good luck with all of the above brands you mention, and I wouldn't feel bad about any of them. If you don't need a managed switch, pick one from your brands list that looks like it fits the requirements.

Re: a good switch replacement
Rather than do a lot of typing, here's a good page on switch types and their functions.
