My network card suddenly ceased functioning during the early morning of 11/3 when my computer automatically downloaded a Windows Update. I did some Googling on the problem and found info from HP that says this is a known problem and gives a solution here: http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/...readId=1179013
The symptoms are basically that the switch to turn the card on and off remains red in both positions, and the card doesn't work. Device Manager says the card is working fine. I found several other posts on this and other tech forums asking for help with the same problem. Before I found this info, I did the following: Used System Restore to go back to a point on 10/31. Uninstalled and reinstalled the driver twice. Disabled and reenabled the network card. Pinged 127.0.0.1 and found that the card is able to ping itself fine. After I found this info, I did the following: Installed the latest BIOS as suggested by HP. Uninstalled HP Wireless Assistant as suggested by a user of the HP forum. From what I see on the HP forum, it appears many more people are having problems with their network cards than what HP is willing to offer maintenance for. According to HP, replacing the network card will not work because it is a problem in the BIOS. I do not want to give up on this yet. I have messed around in BIOS and registry keys before, but only with specific instruction. |

Re: Help with sudden cease of function of nVidia nForce on Compaq v6000
Since this is a known issue, and probably requires at least a BIOS update, I'd go back to HP and find out how they intend to address the issue.

Re: Help with sudden cease of function of nVidia nForce on Compaq v6000
As I said, I already downloaded and installed the BIOS update. HP does not offer support for those who experience issues but who have product number that is not on the list. I don't understand this policy, but that's the way things are. I would think that a product number should be added to the list if a computer experiences the problem, but that's not the way they're doing things.
