Limited or no connectivity from wireless laptop

I have a netgear router and have not had problems connecting wirelessly in the three years I have had this laptop until 10 months ago. I have been connecting hardwire at home instead of using the wireless feature and this is getting old. I want my wireless back! Here is what happens:
1) push wireless button
2) says "acquiring network address" forever
3) after a while (as much as 10 minutes) says limited or no connectivity although signal strength is excellent

I tried to use the netgear tech support but after going through three people and spending more than an hour on the phone, i end up having to go before we complete all of the steps. i refuse to spend anymore money on this computer. Help me somebody~!!

Re: Limited or no connectivity from wireless laptop

Some things you can try here.
  1. For wireless connections, change the channel on the router, I like channels 1, 6, and 11 in the US.
  2. For wireless connections, try moving either the wireless router/AP or the wireless computer. Even a couple of feet will sometimes make a big difference.
  3. Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
  4. Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.

Many times these measures will resolve a lot of intermittent issues.
