CAT5e CABLE DISTANCE

Hi - I have used CAT cable for years wigth no probs, but have just installed external cable for first time. The run is apporx 25m. Goes from RJ45 plate by router (Netgear DG834g v4) around house to anaother RJ45 faceplate. The cable tester shows all 8 wires are working, but I only get limited connectivity. Could it be that the distance is too far for the router?

Help please!

100 meters or 328 feet for a standard router. It's 300 Meters if you have a 10BaseT, 10 Mhz network. Reset your router, making sure you have any important login information to hand (most modern routers require a username and password).

Re: CAT5e CABLE DISTANCE

Thanks for this - the router itself seems fine as I can use 5m patch cable to log on easily. Could it be that I have a telephone cable running parallel to the CAT cable?

Re: CAT5e CABLE DISTANCE

I'll bet money and give you odds that you have the pairs mis-wired. It's not just continuity that you have to be concerned with, you MUST have the pairs wired to the correct pins, and they're not in-line.

The phone wire has nothing to do with this issue.
