Problem installing Belkin Wireless Card
Hi - I'm trying to install a wireless card on an old Sony Vaio PC, and just can't seem to figure out what the problem is. It's a Sony Vaio PCV-J200 that's about 8 years old. The wireless card is a Belkin model # F5D7000 version 1134.
I don't have the original installation disk, so I downloaded drivers with setup utilities from the Belkin site. Since the version number on the card is 1134, my understanding is that I need the drivers for version 1, which is F5D7000-v1xxx I've tried that one and also versions 2 through 7. I keep coming up with the same result: I get the Found New Hardware (network controller) screen...I go through the instructions...and when I get to the screen where I select the Network adapter, the Belkin wireless card is not listed. The Add Hardware Wizard tells me that the Network Controller (? and ! circled in yellow) is not configured correctly (Code 1). It also tells me the Belkin 802.11g Wireless Card (! circled in yellow) cannot start (Code 10). Here's the info you have asked for in other similar posts about devmgmt.msc and IPCONFIG /ALL : Network adapters ...1394 Net Adapter ...Belkin 802.11g Wireless Card (has a ! circled in yellow) ...D-Link DFE-538TX 10/100 Adapter (none of these have a red X displayed) Other devices (has a ? in yellow) ...Network Controller (has a ? in yellow AND a ! circled in yellow) Microsoft Windows XP [version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. C:\Documents and Settings\default>IPCONFIG /ALL Windows IP Configuration .............Host Name..................................: vaio .............Primary Dns Suffix........................: .............Node Type..................................: Broadcast .............IP Routing Enabled.......................: No .............WINS Proxy Enabled.....................: No Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: .............Media State...............................: Media disconnected .............Description.................: D-Link DFE-538TX 10/100 Adapter .............Physical Address........................: 00-50-BA-FD-86-08 C:\Documents and Settings\default> The DSL Modem is also the router, which is located in the next room, about 35 feet away. It's an Actiontec GT701-WG (DSL modem with Wireless Gateway). The ISP is Qwest. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Garrett Last edited by bellrock; 10-29-2008 at 01:07 AM.
