Consternated Cable Conundrum
I is cornfuzed ... I have a Netgear router to which I have my 4-year old Sony Vaio laptop (XP Home SP2) connected via crossover cable (and/or wirelessly ... depending) and all is well. Everything is lovely. Attempting to connect my recording DAW (XP Pro SP2) for some software updates to the same router using a verified good second crossover cable and it won't connect. "Network cable unplugged" even though that same cable works fine with the laptop and I have green LEDs on both ends of the connection. Are there different specs on Router-to-NIC cable connections? Just trying to 'cess out the truth before buying a long straight-thru.
Thanks!

Re: Consternated Cable Conundrum
Well, you shouldn't be using a crossover cable for a computer to router connection, that's one issue.
You need a straight patch cable.

Re: Consternated Cable Conundrum
Well, the laptop is odd, because I've never seen any router/computer combination that requires a crossover cable. Since the other computer doesn't work with the crossover cable, I suspect it's looking for the proper cable.
