XP-Linpus Internet Connection sharing

My windows XP rig connects to the internet over my university's LAN. If I were to get an ethernet crossover cable and connect it between my XP rig's second ethernet port and my Acer Aspire One's port, would I be able to share the internet connection via this? Would it be a simple case of plug-and-play? If not, can you point me towards a guide to doing this?

Thanks.

I'd try a simple Ethernet switch to split the connection. You can also bridge the connections on the dual-NIC machine and see if that does the trick.

Re: XP-Linpus Internet Connection sharing

I would use a switch, but the trouble is that the network connection (which is beyond my control) is tied to the MAC of one of the ports of my XP machine. What do I need in order to bridge my connection?

In that case, you need a router, and you can clone the MAC address of your XP machine into the router.
