Wireless card as an access point?
My network is a basic cable modem to a router to 2 pc's
Can I put a wireless network card in pc2 in addition to the ethernet network card it uses to connect to the router and use it to connect to the network with another wireless device? I tried internet connection sharing but I can't assign ip 192.168.0.1 because of the router. Last edited by Online_Guy; 10-08-2008 at 01:47 PM. |

Re: Wireless card as an access point?
You can change the base address of the router if that's a conflict.

Re: Wireless card as an access point?
You cannot use the wireless card as an access point for another device, however, if you have another client with a network port that you would like to make wireless you can use a wireless ethernet converter
These devices are commonly used to allow network printers, desktop PCs etc to connect wirelessly to an existing wireless network, Buffalo Technology are one company that supplies these type of devices |

Re: Wireless card as an access point?
If you have an Ethernet connection to the Internet, why don't you use a wireless broadband router? Plug the Ethernet connection to the ISP into the WAN port, and you have wired and wireless connections available. This is MUCH better than fooling around with Internet Connection Sharing!
