How to disable network boot on old Gateway
I'm trying to breathe a little life into an old Gateway E3200 desktop that came from a local school.
I'd finished installing the OS (Xubuntu) and began putting the case back together. The problems began once the case was on. There is a small, blue springed push switch that the case holds down when it's on. Apparently this initiates some sort of network boot because when the case is on I'm sent straight to a 3Com TriCom boot config menu. Eventually this boot sequence fails. Even when I configure the net menu to where it gives me a choice to push the H key and boot to the hard drive it fails. The only network option in the Bios is a Wake On LAN which I disabled. Boot from network is also the very last boot option far below the cdrom and hard drive. Does anyone have a tip to keep this thing from trying to network boot? Aside from leaving the case off or breaking off the tab that holds the button. :) Thanks much PM |

I like the breaking the tab that pushes that button option.

Re: How to disable network boot on old Gateway
LOL Yeah I do too!
However, I've been searching about this button and believe that it's, instead, a intrusion switch. I'm not sure what the switch controls but obviously the machine acts differently when it's held down. I've tried adding a sound card to the riser card as well as a modem and neither were detected at least according to diag tools in xubuntu. Anyway, I have more research to do. If anyone has any insight I'd appreciate it. :) PM |

Re: How to disable network boot on old Gateway
Turn off the intrusion detection in the BIOS, that's normally an option.
