[SOLVED] Netgear installation WGR 617

Hi,

I am trying to install NEtgear Wireless router WGR 617 on my PC.
Using the installation wizard, after it detects my internet settings, it asks me whether I need guidance in configuration or manual configuration.

If I choose - need guidance - it shows a screen "Updating Settings", then an error saying - Cannot find active internet connection.

If I choose - manual configuration - it shows the screen "Updating Settings", then asks for username and passwd for WGR 617.
What is this username and passwd, I am not aware.

Pls guide me here, since I am a novice here.

Thanks in advance
Sunny

First off, you need no software to install a wireless router.

I think the first step is for you to describe your whole network in detail. What make/model of modem are you connecting to? Who is the ISP?

Re: Netgear installation WGR 617

Hi John,

I was finally able to configure my router yesterday.
From my wireless laptop I can see it in my list of wireless networks available.
But when I try to connect, it does not connect, no error message also. Just tries for 2 minutes and stops.

My ISP is Airtel.

Re: Netgear installation WGR 617

I was able to get it working.
Since I had put my laptop Mac address in the Allowed access list. If I made it unrestricted, it works fine.
But strange, it should have still worked otherwise.

Thanks anyway.
