ok so i read some forums due to my pc crashing alot on startup i then decided to reinstall xp to try and cure this issue and it did seem to at first .
my problem being as soon as i connect ethernet cable to my pc it slows up instantly and i can heer odd noises coming from the back of my pc ...
works fine until i put the cable in bak then the crashing begins to occur again ?
have i missed something obvious ? im sorry i have very little knowledge of what makes a pc tick

my specs are

intel(R)
pentium(R) d cpu 3.40GHz
3.40GHz,2.00GB of ram
with a 160gb hd

Re: cable issues pc crashes?

It may be that just connecting the ethernet cable is throwing something off inside the case.

I would make sure that everything is plugged in, and connected fully. Shut down your computer, unplug the power cord, then touch the outside of the metal case to ground yourself. Then open up the case and make sure that everything is seated the way it is supposed to be. Take out the each ram chip and seat it back in. Make sure that all the power connectors are in tightly, and that everything is connected correctly.

Cheers!

Re: cable issues pc crashes?

If you didn't do a full reinstall of windows, perhaps your computer is infested with spyware/viruses that are starting to work when connected to the internet. If you have reinstalled from scratch (ie formatting the HD) then I'd start checking the hardware as wmorri has suggested.
