Motorola SM56 Connection Help.

Hello,
I recently formatted my computer and after installing all the drivers, I have run into a problem with my network card. The card I have in a Motorola SM56 Dial-up card, and the problem is, that if the connection times out, or drops out, I am unable to reconnect. I cannot veiw the status of the connection if it drops out as the window flashes on and off the screen. I cannot disconnect the connection after it drops out becuase when I try, nothing happens, if I try to disconnect when the connection is working, it works and I am able to reconnect. And when I open a new page, it comes up with the connect or work offline screen but when I try to connect it doesn't dial and says unable to establish a connection. Also, there is a motorola icon in the system tray and if I click that when the connection is lost, sometimes it will say that it cannot connect due to poor line quality. This is the first time I have experinced any problems, as it is the first time I have formatted the compter and installed drivers on this system. I have no idea what caused the problem or how to fix it. Any advice would be great! Sorry about the mountain of text, I tried to include as much infomation I though was needed. Thanks in advanced.

Re: Motorola SM56 Connection Help.

Fuzed,

Go to Control Panel, Add-remove programs, locate the motorola software for your modem and Uninstall it. Right click on My Computer, click on Properties, Click on the Hardware tab at the top, then click on the Device Manager button. Locate "Modems" in the list, click the "+" icon, right-click on your Motorola device and click Uninstall. After this, physically remove the modem then reboot your PC (leave the modem removed).

Go to:

http://www.motorola.com/softmodem/pu....12.07_DFV.zip

Re-insert the modem card, then On starting Windows for the first time after installing the modem Plug and Play (PnP) detects the new hardware. The modem is detected as a new device. When dialog “Add Hardware Wizard” is appeared click “Cancel” button on it. DO NOT USE “ADD HARDWARE WIZARD” TO INSTALL MODEM DRIVER, BECAUSE YOU WON’T BE ABLE TO USE ALL FEATURES OF THE MODEM.

Instead, browse to the folder where you extracted that ZIP file above and run SSETUP.EXE. If you double-click on this file, then this application will auto-detect the OS and transparently run the necessary installation routines.

After the install, reboot and try your modem again.

Re: Motorola SM56 Connection Help.

Thank you for the quick response, one thing I forgot to mention, was that I got the "Generic Host win32 has encountered and error and stopped working" message prior to the disconnection, and after a quick google search, I found an update which might fix my problem. Thanks for all your help.
