Dell Dimension 4400 and windows xp pro
I have a dell dimension 4400 which was shipped with xp home. I recently decided to upgrade to xp pro. So I backed up all my stuff and then formated the drive. I installed xp pro and all seemed to be running well. After a day or two i noticed that it randomly will come up with the message cable unplugged then will try to acquire and ip address then finally it will end with limited or no connection. At first I thought this would be a router issue, so I rebooted the router and reseated the cable but to no avail, if i reboot the computer it works again for about a or two then the issue reoccurs. At first I thought it was a driver related issue but I can only find one version of my driver for this particular model. I never had this particular problem prior to rebuilt and if anyone want to help me find a better driver it is the CNET model under the dells support page. But all I can find is a either a diagnostic or documentation no driver. Anyone got any thoughts on this.

Re: Dell Dimension 4400 and windows xp pro
Try un-installing the driver and then re-installing it again. Also try another port on the router, take the cable out of the current port and put the network cable in another port.
Also go into the device manager and see if there are any exclamation marks. You can go to the device manager by right clicking on the my computer icon and then left click on properties. Click on the hardware tab and then device manager. |
