Netgear WG311 killed my wired connection...
...or at least that is what it seems like at this point. Hi. First post, and I'm trying to avoid re-installing XP.
Here's the scoop: I installed the Netgear WG311 wireless PCI card into a PC running XP Pro. It worked fine, except that remote desktop was not working because of mrvgina.dll being the wrong version. So I ran the fix from http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_d...x_xp_logon.htm. That fixed the problem, but my signal was too low on that machine, so I decided to just run an ethernet cable to the machine and take out the Netgear card. I made a cable, and connected it from the laptop to the hub. Worked fine (made sure the wireless radio was off, BTW). Then I moved the cable from my laptop to the XP Pro machine. No go. Couldn't get an IP address from the DHCP server. Restarted the machine. Still no go. I downloaded the latest drivers from Intel (Intel Pro/100 + adapter) and still no go. I called Netgear to no avail. Uninstalled the card, reinstalled it and reinstalled the drivers. Still no go. I basically cannot get an IP addres no matter what. I've run the network repair tool, manually tried to ipconfig /release and /renew, and deleted all registry entries with netgear in the name. So, given that it was working absolutely perfectly before I installed the wireless card, I can only assume that Netgear (or the dougknox logon fix) broke something rather critical. Before I wipe the machine clean and reinstall XP (System Restore was turned off - it was an audio workstation) can anyone recommend a way to get back to original system settings for networking components? Or any other suggestions? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. jb |

Re: Netgear WG311 killed my wired connection...
Well, you can start by resetting the stack and winsock.
TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2. Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt: In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands: Note: Type only the text in bold for the following commands. Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults, type: netsh winsock reset catalog Reboot the machine.

Tried that. No go. Still the same. I also just tried giving my computer an assigned ip/gateway/subnet mask. Still no go. With that configuration, I cannot ping 192.168.1.1.
Any other ideas? |

Also checked to make sure that the DHCP service is on. Also did a self diagnostic of the ethernet adapter using Intel's software which showed everything is in order with the adapter.
