[Toshiba Portége R500] Intel 4965 AGN interferencing with Bluetooth device?
Hi guys,
Acidentally I found this forum and I decided to try it, if the people here can help me unsolvable troubles. I have to know, if my devices are working OK, or if there is some problem among them. Well, first of all, this problem is happening at my laptop Toshiba Portége R500, which is equipped by Intel 4965 AGN and some Bluetooth device. The problem is, when I turn on both of the devices and use them in the same time, them problems comes. If I was connected to the AP (via 802.11g, so the same/similar frequence to Bluetooth device) without problems and lost packets before, if I have switched on both devices, then packet lost comes (checked it by command: ping -t www.google.com), connection speed has rapidaly decrease and so on. I use the Bluetooth laser mouse, so that's the reason, why I have to (and want to ) use both of wireless interfaces.Somebody told me, that this new Intel card contains both of the wireless devices, it means WiFi as well as Bluetooth at the one card. Is that right or not? I know, that frequence used by WiFi 802.11b/g is same or similar to Bluetooth, just has some another modulation of the waves, but is it normal, how is my card/devices working? Some of my friends says, that its normal, because the modulation of WiFi and Bluetooth is so similar, that there problems can come and its normal. Me and second group of my friends says, that this is a hardware problem, that already the manufacturer knows, that there devices can interference, so there has to be (hopefully) some shielding which provides to use both of the devices in the same time. Thank you for your experinces, thought, solutions! Jakub Rybar student Prague, Czech Republic |

Re: [Toshiba Portége R500] Intel 4965 AGN interferencing with Bluetooth device?
Well, partly solution for me should be to change my home wireless network to use the 802.11a or 802.11n, which works at the freq. 5 Ghz instead of 2.4 Ghz (802.11b/g). But this is solution just for my home, not for a public places and other places, where I have to use both devices and have no possibility to change the AP freq. to 5 Ghz.
![]() Is this problem good to be send to service or not? That's another question, may be just specified one of my already written ones, what came to my mind... |

Re: [Toshiba Portége R500] Intel 4965 AGN interferencing with Bluetooth device?
Wow, I found something.
Acidentally I found in my brother's computer pluged USB Bluetooth stick from Billionton (similar to noname I guess). Now, I tried following settings: WiFi switched on, Bluetooth (internal) switched off, Bluetooth (external) switched on - connected Bluetooth laser mouse. Everything is working corectly, there are some slight diferences between previous settings and the contemporary ones like: . bit higher ping to example site, google.com (not more than 5ms more than without switched on external Bluetooth device) Well, do you thing I can go to the service and request there for replacing my wireless device(s)? Thank for a answer. |

Re: [Toshiba Portége R500] Intel 4965 AGN interferencing with Bluetooth device?
Well, I've never had the BT interfere with the WiFi, but they both use the 2.4ghz frequency spectrum, so it's not that far fetched.
Here's an article that speaks to the situation, apparently you aren't the only one that has a problem. ![]() http://www.wi-fiplanet.com/tutorials...le.php/1379911

Quote:
thanks for an article, I read it but it talks about my problem in a very common way. First of all, it's from the mid of 2002 so lot of things has changed from this time. Secondly, it talks about how to prevent the interferences, but it's not answering my question, if the problematic situation I experience with my laptop is normal or if it's approved to be solved by service by replacing some parts. Probably you've never experieced problem I'm talking about, so it's not possible to get the answer from you, but hopefully someone will help me more concretely. Thanks a lot, looking forward to all the other thoughts... |

Well, BT technology hasn't changed, and I've seen issues with BT and wireless in the same area, but it so happens that I've never personally experienced it. However, nothing that was in that article has changed, both BT and WiFi still work exactly the same way.
