Confused Ethernet Driver[moved from drivers]

I have had my E Machine since Xmas of 2007. The drive was repaired once and replaced once. Last Monday I lost access to Internet. DSL light on, Power on, Ethernet light out. Troubleshooting show device is working properly, but the icon shows RealTek is unplugged. First time around phone company sent 2 modems out just in case the original was defective.

E Machines wants me to ship the CPU back to them to reformat the HD. Would it be prudent for me to reformat the drive? Thank you.

Re: Ethernet Driver

have you tried a new patch cable from the ethernet card to the modem
why would they want to format the hard drive for a nic problem
in the device manager right click on the device and choose uninstall then reboot and check if it picks up the connection after windows reinstalls it

Re: Ethernet Driver[moved from drivers]

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type devmgmt.msc

Please respond to all the following steps.
  1. Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed.
  2. Are there any devices under Network adapters that have a red x displayed?
  3. Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?

I'd like to see this as well.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
